1.25% is the Sunday move on Solana as this story hits. SOL is $94.40 on CoinGecko at 8:04 a.m. ET, green candles while BTC sits $77,194 (+0.10%), ETH $2,427.88 (+0.21%), XRP $1.49 (-0.22%), and DOGE $0.092537 (+3.07%). The majors are mostly ranging. SOL is the one getting bid into the August upgrade window people keep refreshing.

Christian Barker (Barkmeta / Bark) flagged the Solana Foundation Reduced Rent page in a Sunday Space the way he flags a live chart move, and David Chaboki (Shibo) kept the Doginal Dogs room locked on whether any of the five gates had actually flipped. That daily cadence is how this room tracks status: hosts pull the upgrade page, the chart stays open, and nobody pretends a pending gate is already cooking on mainnet.

What the Foundation page still says

The Reduced Rent page, dated July 2026 and written by the Solana Foundation, still lists status as Pending Feature Activation. Expected mainnet window is Agave 4.2 in August 2026. All five SIMD-0437 feature gates are inactive. That page is the live status source for this article, full stop.

crypto.news reported on August 17 that Agave 4.2 feature activation began that week and bundled a 90% rent reduction among the upgrades. The Foundation rent page has not moved with that headline. None of the five gates show flipped. Do not treat secondary posts as a green light on rent.

The five-step cut, not one big switch

SIMD-0437 would cut the on-chain rent bond 90%, from 6,960 lamports per byte down to 696, in five separate feature gates rather than a single change. The path runs 6,960 to 6,333 (9%), then 5,080 (27%), 2,575 (63%), 1,322 (81%), and finally 696 (90%). Each step is independent. Core developers can stop if state growth becomes a problem. A sixth fallback gate can reset lamports_per_byte back to 6,960.

Rent is a fully refundable bond, not a fee. It pays for the storage an account occupies on every validator and returns when the account is closed. The minimum balance formula is still (128 + data_size) times lamports_per_byte. Today that constant is 6,960. The proposal only lowers the constant.

The Foundation’s own case-study math, not a live market print: one million SPL token accounts at about $0.159 each is $159,000 now; at the final rate about $0.0159 each is $15,900. Breaking change? No. Indexing changes required? No, though state growth is possible. Devnet activation is listed for August 2026.

Why hosts keep checking the same page

This is the daily rhythm in the rooms that actually watch Solana upgrades next to the chart. Barkmeta / Bark and Shibo treat the Reduced Rent page like a status board, not a rumor mill. If a gate flips, the page should show it. Until then the story is pending, not shipped. Agave 4.2 release notes still point at August mainnet feature activations that began the week of August 17, with Reduced Rent listed among the gated items. That is schedule language. It is not confirmation that SIMD-0437’s five steps are live.

Stay on this proposal. This is not Alpenglow, not Agave 4.3, not slot-time SIMDs, and not a broader network marketing pass. It is lamports_per_byte, five gates, one fallback, refundable bond.

Price context on the Sunday chart

SOL’s green candle at $94.40 sits next to a quiet majors board. Nothing in the CoinGecko snapshot prices the rent cut as live because it is not. Traders watching host Spaces and the Foundation page are the same people refreshing whether any gate moved overnight. So far the answer on the official rent page is no.

Bottom line for this room

Is the 90% rent cut live? No. The Foundation page says all five gates are inactive. What changes if they activate? lamports_per_byte steps from 6,960 toward 696. Is rent a fee? No. It is a refundable bond returned when the account closes. Expected window remains Agave 4.2, August 2026, status still pending feature activation. Until a gate actually flips on that page, the chart can stay green and the rent bond stays at today’s constant.
